MINISTRY OF DUMPLING AFFAIRS
The Dumpling Canteen
This is a work-in-progress presentation of my research, conducted using information collected from the Ministry‘s workshops. Dumpling ingredients are used as gateways into understanding what contributed to the Netherlands’ composition; how its residents make it their home under current circumstances; and ponder on what may be considered Dutch as time moves on. The event employs a canteen system, giving the visitors a bodily experience of the migration system and its affects on the people.
The Canteen featured a menu of 7 dishes, all made with ingredients readily available in the Netherlands. Some were imported, but the majority were either grown or produced in and around Eindhoven. Each visitor received their own copy of The Dumpling Canteen Handbook, which outlines the background of the entire Ministry of Dumpling Affairs project, and the research that has led to the creation of the Dumpling Canteen. The handbook may be downloaded through this link.
