Box of Disposable Spoons

2026
Clay, wool, velvet, wood
45 x 29 x 3 cm

One day, the school canteen stopped providing us with metal spoons and forks, stating it was “the consequence of not returning cutlery”. Instead, disposable wooden alternatives were offered. This new cutlery was flat and flimsy, but being disposable made it less frustrating when pieces went missing. I recreated the wooden spoons as ceramic pieces, engraved with everyone’s names, and placed them in a handmade wooden box. At the end of Vienna Design Week, participants will each take their ceramic spoon home, leaving behind a customised wooden case that is only sustained by its memories of the spoons that will never return.

This work was made and presented as part of the group exhibition A Reunion for Vienna Design Week 2026.
